Manual Therapy

What is Manual Therapy?

It is an advanced specialty area of physical therapy practice that is based on manual examination and treatment techniques integrated with exercise, patient education, and other physical therapy modalities to address pain, loss of function, and wellness. Manual therapy appears to work best with numerous kinds of conditions: chronic pain, sports injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, and so forth. Besides, when this treatment is paired with exercises and education of the techniques, patients get much better results and improved quality of life.

Techniques Used in Manual Therapy

  • Mulligan Technique: Mobilization with movement used to restore function while pain is simultaneously reduced.
  • Maitland Technique: Graded mobilizations are performed for the purpose of treatment and assessment of joint pain and stiffness.
  • Kaltenborn Method: Focuses on restoring joint mobility through sustained traction and gliding techniques.
  • Trigger Point Release: Works on muscle tissue to reduce pain and enhance mobility from contracted areas.
  • Fascial Manipulation: A technique which releases the tightness from the fascia, the connective tissue around.
  • Myofascial Release: Gentle, long pressure is applied to the myofascial connective tissue for pain-relief and restoration of motion.
  • Stretching: It enhances the flexibility and extends the range of motion in muscles and joints.
  • Joint Mobilization: Passive movement of joint to restore normal movements.
  • IASTM – Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization: Specialized tools break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions.
  • Traction: Applies gentle pulling forces to the spine to relieve pressure on spinal discs and nerves.
  • Assisted Range of Motion (ROM) Movements: Assists the patient in moving the joints through an increased range of motion, this is done by the therapist
